Jereme Richmond is an Illinois commit for the 2010 season and is ranked as the #3 Small Forward in the country. He plays at Waukegan and right now they are in the playoffs. In his last game Jereme got thrown out for receiving 2 technical fouls in a blowout against Fremd. Apparently the first one was a double technical as he and another player were pushing each other as they ran down the floor. The second technical was for him hanging on the rim after missing a dunk. The reason that this is such a big deal is because if you are ejected from a game, you have to miss the next one. Well Waukegan's next game is against Zion-Benton, which is the school that has one time Illini recruit, and current Ohio State commit Lenzelle Smith. Zion-Benton is #7 in the state, while Waukegan is ranked #12. There was a major uproar about not only the technical, but also about Jereme (who is the Sun-Times Player of the Year as a Junior) not being able to play.
Here is the video of the technical posted on Youtube by Jereme's dad: (Jereme is the one who buries the jumper and shoots the free throw, yes he is a monster, and yes that is how you spell his name.)
I actually was waiting for another play after watching that, but that was in fact the dunk attempt that got Jereme thrown out of the game. The guard is trying to throw the ball off the backboard to him, and his just misses the dunk. Even with the bad quality of the video it is plain to see that it was an atrocious call. It was ruled today that he would be allowed to play in his next game, but read this article as to why he can play. This is basically the entire reason for this post. Enjoy!
Richmond will play
The Richmonds have always stayed firm in their commitment to Illinois, and hopefully this is just another step in solidifying his commitment. Pretty funny how a rabid fanbase can actually help recruiting, and not hinder it.
