Cubs still Wheeling and Dealing
DeRosa is Gone
I loved DeRosa, but I wouldn't mind getting Milton Bradley on this team. For some reason when I think of the Cubs, I think of a bunch of vanilla nice guys. I think it will do this team some good to add someone who is clinically Bat-Shit Crazy!
I'm not sure who should be happier about this signing, Cubs' fans or Cardinals' fans? We need Butter's perspective on this one. I personally don't like it, but maybe when Miles hits his growth spurt during puberty he might turn into a solid major leaguer.
Cubs sign the little kid who annoyed the shit out of you in little league
Illini Beat Purdue!!
What a hell of a game by the Illini, and also by Purdue. First off, I wanna say, that I really hate Robbie Hummel, and also Chris Kramer. Every year some team in the Big Ten has to have a couple of white guys that I hate. It started with Tom Coverdale's ginger ass at Indiana. Then I hated the Crispin kids from Penn State, followed by Tim Doyle (who I now love because he somehow has a Brooklyn accent) and Adam Haluska from Iowa. I just don't get the love affair everyone has with certain white guys. Robbie Hummel looked like shit tonight, and Kramer has done nothing for 2 years, yet people still love the shit out of these two. How about what Jajuan Johnson did tonight with 16 points and 15 boards, not to mention eating Tisdale's lunch in the paint in the first half?
Now to the game.
Coming into the game I really thought that the Illini would have a great chance to steal a victory. I thought that they would have an even better chance of covering the spread as 7.5 point dogs, so of course I bet that. Early on, it looked like the Illini were running their offense well, and Purdue was just cold. Based on everything that happened last year with Purdue, and their ranking this year, as soon as they went on a 9-0 run to go up 10-6 with 14:00 minutes left I thought to myself that Purdue basically had a better player at every position than us. (except for PG where they started a freshman) On offense Tisdale was over-matched in the post by Johnson, Demitiri hit one jumper and then proceeded to launch terrible decision after terrible decision at the hoop. (Once Tisdale gets a little more size, he will be a force, because has a great shot from 15 feet.) Chester and Trent were not looking to shoot, and Mike Davis and Keller were missing open looks. I almost broke my T.V. when Dominique missed his lay-in. All of this time, I was worried about where our offense was going to come from as Purdue is a great defensive team, and their ball pressure is amazing. While I was worrying, I totally missed the fact that we were playing great defense, and Purdue only scored 2 points in almost 9 minutes.
If you look at it honestly we are not as talented as Purdue. Last year even though we had a shitty record, we were in almost every game until the end. How is this possible? We always play hard and play great defense. Purdue was up 10-6 with 14:16 left in the first half, and then they only had 12 points with 6 minutes left in the half. That is either really shitty Offense, or somebody is playing great Defense.
2 things I was worried about coming into this game was dribble penetration, and rebounding. Lewis Jackson is a terrifically quick little PG, Moore and Grant love to penetrate and get to the hoop, and they either finish, get fouled, or kick out for three's. Clemson absolutely killed us with their penetration, and then dishing to their bigs, but Purdue didn't seem to do this as much. Thank god they settled for outside jumpers that for the most part were contested. As far as rebounding, I was worried about second chance kick-outs for three's, or just getting out hustled for position and giving up putbacks. Neither of these really seemed to happen. Everyone did an exceptional job of keeping people in front of them, and our guards especially fought hard for rebounds. Chester and Calvin Brock led the team in rebounds with 7 a piece. Normally people would be bitching when you have 2 guards leading the team in rebounds, but we just beat the #9 team in the country, so who gives a shit.
By the way, never ever follow or believe what ESPN says as far as rankings. Their recruiting class rankings are absolute garbage, and the TOP 25 this week actually had Mizzou ahead of us even though we curb stomped them Ed Norton style. They are honestly clueless when it comes to anything that is not the Yankees, Red Sox, Patriots, Tom Brady, Duke, Brett Favre, Lebron, Kobe, UNC, USC, Serena and Venus fucking Williams, and Tiger Woods. If it wasn't for Erin Andrews, they would be pretty much worthless, and even she is getting over exposed.
I really thought that this was going to be another huge game for Demitri. He basically single handedly won the game against them last year in the BTT, scoring 26 and going 6-6 from 3, but he played terrible. At one point in the second half we had a four guard line-up of Chester, Trent Meacham, Brock and Legion to go along with Davis at center. This was when Calvin had our only turnover of the second half on a shitty pass to Legion. I was impressed with Bruce's decision to not go with Demitri at the end of regulation. I was even more impressed with McCamey coming back in overtime, getting a steal, taking a charge, missing 3 free-throws, and stepping up and drilling 4 in a row like a cold blooded bastard!! I think that this is much better for him in the long run than if he scored 20 and shot well. He helped us win with his defense for the first time in his career, and that is huge.
Alex Legion is going to be a hand full as far as a scorer. I'm just a little worried that when he is on the floor that the offense is going to be focused on getting him open jumpers instead of moving and finding easy buckets inside for Davis and Tisdale. I think what has made us great this year is the fact that we don't have a focal point on offense. Opposing coaches can't look at us and say "We need to stop player A and B and force the rest of the team to beat us." Each and every game someone different has stepped up based on the type of defensive players we have faced. I'm a little worried that we are going to get a little too enamoured with getting Legion the ball, kinda like we did in 2006 with Dee. Legion does have a crazy quick shot, we just don't need him to shoot everytime he touches it. If you think that we need Legion to shoot 15 times a game, and score a ton, then obviously you haven't watched a game this year, because Illinois was 2 points away from being 10-0 without him.
What can you say about Chester Frazier? He is an absolute warrior and has made himself one of the best point guards in the Big Ten. Him and Brock shut down Robbie Hummel. If you watch the game again, look to see how hard Chester worked in the post against Hummel. He was giving up 6 inches to him, and still fought him like a dog inside. If you don't like Chester Frazier than you don't know shit about basketball, and are probably one of those d-bags that people make fun of at sports bars. He had another 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 turnover and played 41 out of 45 minutes.
I love Calvin Brock. Everyone who knows me, knows I love him. I was wearing my Calvin Brock T-shirt jersey today during the game. That being said, I wanted to kill him a few times in the first half, and then also when he took the turn around 18 footer with 51 seconds left and missed. I got more text messages right after that shot than I did on my birthday! But god bless him, as soon as I got down on him, he redeemed himself with an 18 foot jumper when Purdue looked to be getting the momentum in overtime, and then the great finish on the alley-oop, and of course the sweet ass block at the end of the game. I am sorry Calvin, I will never doubt you again, and you truly are Chi-Town's Finest!!!
I don't love Trent Meacham, everyone who knows me knows that I don't love him. As I wrote in a previous post, I said I wanted him to make a big shot in a big game during crunch time. Well, he did it today, and I think that this game was won basically by him. It looked like a typical game against a good opponent for Trent. He wasn't looking for his shot, he had walk-on "Ollie" from the movie Hoosiers guarding him for a lot of the first half, yet didn't take advantage of it. Then with less than 3 minutes left when we were down by one, he took 2 terrible shots. The 3 he missed looked like he closed his eyes. I was about to text Pac-Man so we could both vent (I don't love Trent, Pac-Man can't stand him), but I waited. Thank god I did because his floater in the lane with a minute and a half left put us back within one, and then he ran the pick and roll to perfection with Mike Davis to give us the lead. Thank you Trent!
Finally Bruce Weber. How much credit does this man deserve? First it was he only won because it was Self's recruits, then he could coach, but he couldn't recruit. Then he got the recruits, but his team went to shit. Well now we are playing the best basketball we have played in over 2 1/2 years, and we are doing it without one superstar. I have never seen an Illinois team score so many easy buckets on inbounds plays. I have never seen an Illinois team execute so well after a timeout and a shot clock that is under 10 seconds. And the pick and roll at the end of regulation was genius. We haven't ran a pick and roll with the pick man diving to the basket all year. Everyone was expecting Trent to shoot the ball, 3 defenders were keyed on him. Using a four guard offense at the end and having faith in Chester and Calvin to rebound was also gutsy and huge. Kramer was hurt, so you know Purdue doesn't have their best defender out there,(I think he is a good defender like Brian Randle was a good defender) Johnson is forced to defend Mike Davis outside of the paint(which he couldn't do when he was guarding Tisdale). Most importantly it allowed for a lot more movement, and didn't allow anyone to help on Trent's penetration because everyone had to stay with shooters.
I will leave you with a few stats that will hopefully get you as excited about this team as we at Durty Butter are. These stats sum up this team, and the job that Bruce Weber has done this year:
-We only had 6 turnovers in a game that went to overtime.
-It was only the 3rd time Purdue gave up over 65 points. The other 2 were to #4 Oklahoma, and #5 Duke
- 5 Players scored in double figures
- This year we won our 13th game in the FIRST Big Ten game of the season. Last year we won our 13th game in the LAST Big Ten game of the year. Minnesota at home March 8th 2008.
Here is the link to the highlights of lastnights game.

Illini are 12-1 (Big Ten Breakdown)
So Illinois finished their non-conference schedule 12-1. If you recall I thought that the Illini would maybe lose to Mizzou and finish 11-2. Before we look forward to the Big Ten season lets look back at the first 13 games.
First it should be noted that Illinois did not have one the hardest non-conference schedules out there, but who gives a shit. I would rather be 12-1 going into a tough Big Ten conference than 8-5, which is what we were in last year's nightmare.
Here is a crazy stat: From 2001-02 season to the 2006-07 season Illinois only lost 8 non-conference games. These are not counting the NCAA tourney. 2005 and 2006 we went undefeated in the non-conference.
Mike Davis has to not only be the surprise of the non-conference, but should probably be the co-MVP along with Chester Frazier. Alex Legion needs quite a few more games before he will look comfortable on the floor. Mike Tisdale is a small forward trapped in Manute Bol's body. Rich Semrau and Calvin Brock won't get enough credit for how hard they play and the difference they make on the floor. Demitri McCamey can take off cupcake games as long as he keeps playing like an All-American during big games. I would still like to see Trent Meacham hit a big shot when the game is close or on the line, I know he scored a ton in the Mizzou game, but that game was never close. I don't think that Dominique Keller will have a shot blocked during Big Ten play, because that guy can shoot from any angle imaginable. If Chester Frazier was a liability on offense, does that make Jeff Jordan a lost cause?
With how good the Big Ten has looked in the non-conference, along with other major conferences like the Pac-10 and Big 12 being a little down this year, I think that their will be 6 bids from the Big Ten, I'm just not sure who gets those bids. 2 are set for sure and the other 4 will be between Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Here is my breakdown of the other Big Ten Teams.
-Michigan State and Purdue are locks
-Ohio State looked to also be a lock, but now they have lost Lighty for up to 3 months and Anthony Crater is leaving. With these two loses, it puts a lot of pressure on a young Ohio State team. To be honest, this team reminds me a lot of last years team, especially now that they only have one point guard and Lighty is gone. Lauderdale and Mullens are combining to produce as much as Kosta Koufas did last year. Evan Turner has basically taken over Jamar Butler's scoring, and Diebler is about the same as he was last year. I'm not gonna bet on a team that is playing with 3 sophomores, 2 freshman and a juco point guard.
- Minnesota is the other ranked team in the Big Ten. If it weren't for the win against Louisville, then the Fighting Tubby's might have had the easiest non-conference schedule ever. Since they do have that win, Minnesota has to be reckoned with as a team that does have talent. They start with Michigan State and Ohio State at home. Win both of those, and they are legit, lose them both, and they are who we thought they were, win one lose one, and then we still have no idea how good this team is.
-Every year I want to think that Wisconsin is going to be terrible. Every year they have some tall white guy who annoys the shit out of me, whether it be because he has the dumbest nickname ever (One of them was referred to as "The Polar Bear" last year) or the fact that every game they have to show the tall, goofy looking white guy's even more goofy girlfriend in the band. Seriously, how annoying was that shit when Mike Wilkenson's girlfriend would turn around when he was shooting free throws? Its a goddamn free-throw, not open heart surgery. I hate people who are indirect attention seekers. Wilkenson is the one who should have the attention, yet his idiot girlfriend steals it by doing something completely irrational!! Is she going to pass out if she actually witnesses him miss a free-throw? Does she turn away from the TV when he is shooting free-throws during away games? People like this should be mocked constantly for their lack of intelligence and self-esteem until they really do become clinically insane.
Back to this years team. Every year, Bo Ryan manages keep the Badgers in contention for a Big Ten Title and an NCAA bid. I am hoping that this is the year that Wisconsin shits the bed like they are supposed to. Beating Iona and Idaho State by 2 does not instill a lot of confidence, and Virginia Tech is not a quality win anymore since they lost to Georgia.
- Manny Harris is the best player in the Big Ten. If you think it is Robbie Hummel, then you are an idiot. Manny Harris scores more, has about the same rebounds and has more assists. Michigan has the marquee wins over Duke and UCLA, and have only lost to Duke and Maryland. I think that as far as top 3 players go, they have just as much talent as Purdue or Michigan State. Whether they can contend for the Big Ten depends on if all of them can play consistently every game, and if they can get any help from someone else on the team. I think Michigan will be in the top 5 of the Big Ten, maybe even top 3 and be ranked at the end of the season.
-Penn State does not have any great wins, but they do have a questionable lose to Rhode Island, and "are you fucking kidding me" lose to Temple. Although they are 11-2, they haven't played anyone that would even sniff the Top 25. Look for them to be just like they were last year, and by that I mean they will have some great wins like Michigan State and Indiana last year, but it's Penn State, so they will lose plenty. Unfortunately, PSU loves to play Illinois tough, 4 of the last 6 games against Penn State have been decided by 2 points or less. All 6 have been by 6 points or less.
- I am gonna lump Indiana, Iowa and Northwestern in together, because they are all gonna suck. Iowa and Northwestern won't suck as much as Indiana, but they will do their fair share of playing like shit. Northwestern also hasn't beaten anyone close to the Top 25, and their offense is attempting to set back basketball almost 40 years. I'm talking pre-Pistol Pete basketball. Leave it to a bunch of nerds to create the most boring offense ever (Princeton), and then leave it to another bunch of nerds to also use it. I bet that the creation of the Princeton offense is actually a deleted scene from Revenge of the Nerds. Can't you imagine Takashi drawing up the offense during a timeout of an intramural game between the Tri-Lams and Alpha Beta, and Lamar is setting fruity back picks and prancing around 35 feet away from the hoop as booger is running back door?
Iowa suspended their leading scorer indefinitely, which leaves them with just about nothing, but who really cares about Iowa. Cyrus Tate is Iowa's Brian Randle, except he doesn't foul as much or get hurt as often, he is just a tall, athletic disappointment. Tony Freeman, who led Iowa in scoring last year bolted to Southern Illinois so fast, he may have left behind his pencil thin molester stache.
I am praying that Indiana does not win a Big Ten game. With back to back loses to Northeastern and Lipscomb at home, I think that this dream is a total possibility. Next time you are at a bar, ask your friends where Lipscomb is located, guaranteed no one will know, and most likely they will say on the Internet because they will think it is a porn site. You have a better chance of finding a white cab driver in Chicago than you do finding a Lipscomb alum.
Later I will have a breakdown of Illinois' remaining games and my predictions for the Big Ten.

Chester Frazier
Here is Paul Klee's article.
Huge win this week against Mizzou, and a lot of people are finally realizing that this team is real good, and also fun as shit to watch.

Update: Dee Brown Signs With Suns
azcentral.com
- On a side note, can somebody explain to me what the shit people see in Ron Artest? He is shooting 37% on the season and only 42% for his career. Is he really that good of a defender? Not really, and now he is constantly hurt. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that he is psychopath. Other psychopaths have done well in the league, like Dennis Rodman and Latrell Sprewell. In Rodman's case, he was a great rebounder and slept with Carmen Electra in her prime, and Sprewell is a Hall of Fame money spender. Artest brings nothing to the table, and Houston will most likely shit the bed again in playoffs.

Dee Brown may be a Sun
Here is the link: Bright Side of the Sun
Also more info from the workout here: Bright Side of the Sun
I don't mind watching the Jazz and the Rockets because of Deron and Luther, but I don't know if I can stand to watch Dee play with a 7 foot 350 pound Ninja Turtle, who is way past his prime.
Vontae Going Pro
Here are his stats and the press release from fightingillini.com
For some reason I thought that Vontae had more than 7 interceptions. My favorite memories of Vontae will be his blocked punt against Mizzou 2 years ago, and then in the upset of Ohio State, Vontae came up and leveled Beanie Wells in the flat, gave himself a concussion, yet still got up and head-butted J Leman before he went to the sidelines for the rest of the game. I couldn't find either of these plays, so here is Vontae killing a receiver from Northwestern.
Also now Illinois might have to look for another assistant coach as Curt Mallory who is the Co-defensive coordinator is a top candidate for the Miami (OH) job. So now all we need is a Offensive Coordinator who can teach his offense how to pick up blitzes and run hot routes, and a Defensive Coordinator who might play his corners within 7 yards of receivers and perhaps blitz someone other than Martez Wilson off the edge. I know this sounds like a daunting task, but I have some faith in Zook.

Illini vs. Illini
Arrelious Benn vs. Mike Davis - When watching Rejus, all you want is to get him the ball in space and let him run people over or run around them. Watching Mike Davis all you want is to get him the ball in space inside the 3 point line, and let him pull up and hit a jumper, or go hard to the basket. Both have prototypical size for the next level(Davis does need 25 more pounds). Both are becoming the face of each program. Each player is from the east coast. The only difference is that Rejus was a major recruit, while most people didn't recruit Mike Davis because they thought he was going to prep school for a year. Both are the most exciting player for each team, and fans absolutely love them. While Rejus can make the spectacular catch down field, he is more of a possession receiver, just like how Davis can jump out of the gym and have spectacular dunks in transition, he is still mainly a good spot up shooter inside of 18 feet.
Juice Williams vs. Chester Frazier - Both came into college raw and played as freshman and were completely in over their heads. Juice was forced to try and turn around a program that was playing miserably, Chester was expected to take Dee Brown's place and continue the success that Illinois had had for many years. Both are tough as hell and grew up in bad neighborhoods. Both have had fans calling for them to be benched for unproven players, and both have overcome that to have great years, while they both still make some mistakes. Both Juice and Chester are the proven leaders of their teams. Both replaced total d-bags in Tim Brasic and Brian Randle.
Martez Wilson vs. Bill Cole - Both were highly rated and highly recruited out of high school, and so far both have under-achieved. Martez was supposed to be the prototypical weakside linebacker for our cover 2 scheme because he had amazing speed to go with his size. Bill Cole had been running the motion offense for 4 years and was supposed to have the easiest transition to the program for any of the incoming freshman. Coming in as freshman we were told as fans that both are very close to starting. As sophomores, it seems as though either both have regressed, or somebody was blowing a ton of smoke up our asses.
Vontae Davis vs. Demitiri McCamey - Both of these players are the most talented players of their respective sports, and the knock on both of them from their head coaches is that they don't work hard enough. Vontae shows flashes of being a 1st round pick, but also is a little cocky and sometimes gets out of position because of it. Demitri has shown in games that he can take over games and possibly be an early draft pick like Deron Williams was if only he would work hard, but he doesn't all of the time. Both players were benched by their coaches in order to send a message that they need to change their attitudes and work hard all of the time.
Britt Miller vs. Trent Meacham - Both players are local products and both are loved by people in the Champaign area. Each player worked very hard in the last 3 years to become a viable option at their respective position in the Big Ten. Britt Miller put up great numbers as far as tackles and sacks went, but he did that against teams that were not as good as Illinois. Trent Meacham will score at least 15 and hit 3-4 3's against weaker opponents. The knock on both is that they don't step up in big games, and don't make the big plays when the team needs them too, unlike Vontae Davis and Demitri McCamey.
Donsay Hardemann vs. Dominique Keller - Both were awesome in JUCO, and Illini fans eagerly awaited their debuts. Both are outspoken on their teams and bring a lot of enthusiasm and energy to their teams. For Donsay, fans had to wait a little while for that big hit and big play, but we all knew it would come. Dominique was the second leading scorer in JUCO last year, so we were all waiting to see if he was going to be able to do that at this level, and he had back to back great games scoring. Each still makes mistakes that has their coaches upset, but people are already looking for them to be leaders for next years teams. Not only, on the field, but also vocal motivational leaders in practice.
Jeff Cumberland vs. Mike Tisdale - Both players are freaks of nature as far as size, and you will be hard pressed to find their equivalent anywhere else in the NCAA. With Cumberland, he is so much bigger than any corner that he faces that you expect him to just dominate, and he showed flashes in games this year of what he could be, but he is so inconsistent that it is frustrating as hell, and he still drops a lot of balls. Tisdale towers over pretty much everyone he plays, to the point where you think it is almost unfair, but he is also inconsistent, and gets pushed around too much, he also drops too many balls. In some games the mismatch is ridiculous and these players exploit it and put up huge numbers, in other games they disappear.
Eddie McGee vs Jeff Jordan - The backup is always the favorite of every fan base. Both players see some playing time and at times show unbelievable athleticism, but if they had to start at QB or at PG the team would absolutely fall apart because they are not nearly as all-around talented as the people who play ahead of them. Everyone has seen Eddie McGee run, but everyone has also seen him fumble every other time he runs. Jeff Jordan brings the same defensive intensity that Chester Frazier does, but he is an even bigger liability on offense, he makes poor decisions with the ball, and is very easily forced to pick up his dribble in horrible spots on the floor. Everyone will still love both of them, and the Illini fan base will debate whether or not these two should start every time the actual starter has a bad game.
Jarred Fayson vs Alex Legion - Both are transfers from power programs (Fayson from Florida and Legion from Kentucky), and both are supposed to be electrifying scores. Fayson was considered to be one of the best receivers in high school, and Legion one of the best shooting guards. Both were ranked on Rivals top 100, and everyone is waiting for them to play. Each could have been used in the year that they had to sit out because of transferring, but each should contribute immediately.
Now I'm sure you could probably do this for any team in the country, but if you really think about it, there are a lot of really strange coincidences when it comes to the players of each of these teams. I tried for 3 days to come up with something for Calvin Brock, but I couldn't think of anything for him, so I guess it doesn't work for everyone.

OKLAHOMA OVER TEXAS in what should have been the Big 12 Championship this year.
Now, I don't know if anyone reading this is either for or against a playoff, but go through those matchups, and think about how great it would be to watch those games over the course of the Christmas Holiday. Every weekend would have marquis games, and you can bet that beers would flow, and good times would be had. IMPLEMENT THIS NOW!!!

We Need A Playoff Now...Says Congress!
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3760232
As you know, I'm a huge proponent of a playoff system, and if it takes Congress getting involved to get it done, then I'm all for it. I would be intrigued, however, to see the legislation once it's introduced. I'm not sure that Article I of the Constitution gives Congress a "fix college football" power.

Greatest Speech Ever
You can donate at www.JimmyV.org/contribute
Or you can call 1-800-4JimmyV
Here is his speech:
No matter what you think of Dick Vitale as an announcer, he has basically devoted the rest of his life to make sure that people don't forget about his best friend Jim Valvano, and also to make sure that his dream of a cure for cancer becomes a reality. Every year listening to him talk about Jim and all of the great things that he has accomplished by creating the Jimmy V foundation makes me forget about all of the ACC and Duke love. Not too many people who have a forum like Vitale have would even consider using it for something so unbelievably selfless, and for that he should be commended.

The cowboy is sweet. Here is an older episode that I didn't post earlier that has of him in it more.
Here is an article about Dee Brown. It's great to hear about Dee working hard to get into the NBA and also that he still cares about the Illinois program. Illinois needs more athletes like Dee and Deron to help out with the future, and actually attribute their success to playing at Illinois and working hard while they were here, instead of thinking that they are god's gift to their sport. (Like Rashard Mendenhall)
Here is a recruiting article about Bradley Beal who is recruiting target for 2011. It is great to hear that Bruce and Co. are still recruiting hard for the 2011 class which has a lot of talent and seems to be pretty deep in the state of Illinois. Bruce also had a really long day on Saturday. Directly after the Illinois game at the United Center against Georgia, Bruce flew to Kentucky to watch recruits at a tournament. Included in those players was DJ Richardson who signed this year to play in 2009 and is now playing ball in Vegas at a prep school.

Bulls Curse Almost does in Rose
Rose stabs himself
To be honest when I first saw that Rose stabbed himself, I thought that if I had to play with the rest of the Bulls, I might go for a knife myself, but it turned out to be an accident. So this begs the question: Do you really believe this story? He did go to Memphis, so he definitely didn't get the education that most athletes do in college. I'm pretty sure that rolling on sharp objects is something that a better university would have taught him not to do. So this story isn't totally out of the realm of possibilities of things that actually happened. I think Hinrich is behind this for Rose making him totally expendable.
Locksley to New Mexico

Reports are the Mike Locksley is leaving the University of Illinois to go to New Mexico and become their head coach. Locks was at University of Illinois for 4 years and was their Offensive Coordinator. The biggest loss will most likely be in recruiting, as Locksley was considered Illinois' best recruiter and was the Illini's connection to the Maryland/DC area where we got recruits such as Rejus Benn, Vontae Davis and Eddie McGee. My guess is that Illinois will promote Eric Wolford or Kurt Beathard to become our new OC. I'm not devastated by this, having Locksley go so far west shouldn't allow him to take a lot of DC recruits, and hopefully Illinois has made some other connections there. Also it was a down year for recruiting in that area, so we only have 2 commits for DC. Had this been 2 years ago I would have panicked, plus I think his play calling in the last 5 games was atrocious. Hopefully now we actually run the ball more than 12 times a game, and teach our linemen and running backs how to pick-up blitzes, also maybe throw in a hot route or 2 for our receivers.
This hasn't been confirmed by UNM or Illinois

Difference Between Funny and Unfunny
Blond, white, female Amy Phoeler would have been a better choice to play Plaxico Buress, than this unfunny D-Bag. I bet when he comes up with an idea for the show everyone just closes their eyes and pray for the dessert cart to come by so Fat Albert will run out of the room. Is there a government appointed group that makes sure the SNL always has one unfunny person on it? I don't understand, and things like this are what drive me to border-line breakdowns. I equate this to me going to a hospital and getting paid to be a surgeon, and actually performing surgery, even though I have no formal training, or any skill whatsoever. Congrats Keenan, you found a golden ticket. By the way as I am typing this I am watching the Bears game, can Dan Dierdorf be any more annoying with his analysis? I couldn't stand him on Monday night football, and I can't stand him now.

New Mayne Street
And here is some bonus footage from this episode.
I think the bonus footage should have been in the episode, but whatever. Also is this chick surprisingly very attractive, or is it just me? I'm going to label her Tina Fey hot.

Look to the future

As of right now the Illinois Men's basketball team is 6-1. Being the homer that I am, I always think the Illini will be solid and compete for a Big Ten title. I took a lot of flack last year as I predicted a 25 win season for Illinois. Here is my outlook for the rest of the non-conference season.
At the beginning of the season I though that Illinois would finish 9-4 or at best 10-3. This predicition was based on loses to Clemson, Mizzou, Texas A&M ( who we didn't have to play) and Vanderbilt. Now that we have taken care of Vandy, Tulsa instead of A&M, we are poised to finish at least 11-2. I know that is taking a lot for granted, since last year we lost to Miami (OH) and Tennessee State at home, but this is not last years team.
This years team has 3 players averaging over 10 points, with Demitri McCamey continuing his late season success, he is hitting big time 3's and hitting some mid-range jumpers also. Trent Meacham was shooting over 60% from 3 before his 0-4 against Clemson, and is actually taking people off the dribble when they over play him on his outside shot. The difference this year though has been Mike Davis. Davis was made to play in Bruce Weber's motion offense. The touch he has on mid-range jumpers is outstanding, and against Clemson he ran the floor better than any big man I have seen at Illinois. He has the baseline jumper that made Warren Carter a star his senior season, and is developing a back to the basket game because he is long and more athletic than most people who are guarding him. If you look at Mike's game, pretty much every shot he takes in uncontested because he moves so well inside the 3 point line. Add to this a senior leader who is completely selfless in Chester Frazier and you have the makings of a solid basketball team.
Chester Frazier is going to go down in history as my favorite Illini. Not favorite basketball player, but favorite Illini. Here is a recap of what Chester has had to deal with: First he came in and had fill the shoes of the most liked Illini and Sporting News Player of the Year in Dee Brown. Next he played hurt pretty much his entire career. He had to deal with his roommate and best friend almost killing another teammate in a drunk driving accident. Then he had to watch as that roommate got suspended for a year and then blew his second chance and got kicked off the team. Add to this the death of his father in April of 2007 after he had been diagnosed with lung cancer just 2 months before. Beyond this he had to deal with fans screaming for him to be benched for being a liability on offense. Chester could have easily folded, let Demitri McCamey take his starting spot, and ride through his scholarship and move on, or as he considered, leave the team and move back to inner-city Baltimore.
Instead Chester has fought hard to battle through all of this crap and now he is 3rd in the nation in assists per game, and has a 4 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. Along with this he has been the illini's best defender the past 3 years. (If you think Brian Randle was, you are an idiot) During off-season workouts, when coaches can't be around, Chester created workouts for all of his teammates and made sure that they got to the gym and got better. Watching this team and how well they play together and fight during games I can't help but think that they are following the lead of Chester Frazier. In the Kent State game, when the Illini were playing like crap and looked like they were about to lose, a hurt Chester dove into the stands for a loose ball and motivated his team to play for a win. As Mike Davis put it " That save, that changed the game right there, i don't think they wanted to play anymore after that save."
So the rest of the non-conference stacks up like this:
Georgia (5-2) - Lost to Loyola Chicago by 19 at home, they also only beat 1-6 Eastern Michigan by 1. They did stay close in a lose to Western Kentucky who knocked of Louisville by 14 at home. They have a stud freshman who was a top 30 recruit, but lost their leading scorer, rebounder, assist man, and steals leader from last year. They are young, and not very good, but last year they did win 4 games in 3 days during the SEC tournament to win the automatic bid for the NCAA tournament. They had to beat Kentucky in the morning and turnaround and beat Mississippi State that night because a tornado ripped through the Georgia Dome and postponed their game with Kentucky. Their guard play is extremely inexperienced since Sundiata Gaines who led the team in everything graduated, a Sophomore guard got kicked off, and a SF transferred. Of their guards that play over 20 minutes a game, 2 are Freshman, one is a Sophomore who only averaged 4 points a game last year, and a Senior who as a Junior played only 13 minutes a game and scored 3 points a game. This better be a win.
Hawaii at home (3-2) - Hawaii has lost to San Francisco and Cal State Fullerton at home where they are normally hard to beat. This is Hawaii's first road game, and they average 70 points a game, but average only 11 assists a game, and 19 turnovers
Chicago State at home (3-3) Chicago State lost to Marquette by 20 and Northern Iowa and Mercer by 11. They actually have played pretty well, and this other than the Mizzou game scares me because this is a team that can hang around and make it tough for Illinois.
Detroit at home (2-4) Detroit lost to Purdue by 30, Depaul and Milwaukee by 9. Their head coach is Ray McCallum who some of you might remember as one of the assistants who got canned from Indiana last year. There was a little bit of controversy as Eli Homan asked to transfer from Indiana after he threw a plant in new head coach Tom Crean's office and had to be escorted out by security. His reason for leaving was that he wanted to go closer to home which is California, then he went to Detroit. I feel that anyone who was involved with Indiana last year is a scumbag, and McCallum is included in that. Either way I think that the Illini should stick it to any person that was involved with Indiana's program last year. Yes I am still bitter and screw Indiana. This is also the debut of Alex Legion for the Illini, so it will be interesting to see how he plays, and also how much he plays.
Missouri in St. Louis (6-1) - Mizzou has only lost @ no. 14 Xavier by 4. They beat USC when they were ranked. They are led by 3 seniors in DeMarre Carrol, Leo Lyons, and Matt Lawrence. Carrol and Lyons are post players, while Lawrence is basically a 3 point shooting guard. These 3 are collectively averaging about 45 points, and are playing really well. Add to this that Illinois has beaten Mizzou in the Braggin Rights game I believe the last 8 years, so this is going to be one of the hardest games that we will play all year. Having Alex Legion will help a ton because Mizzou plays a "40 minutes of Hell" style where they press the entire game. This is the same style that Clemson played, and having an extra guard who can handle and shoot will help enormously. I don't want to bag on Jeff Jordan, but he was a liability when he was in during the Clemson game, and Legion should take care of that problem. If we can break the press like we did against Clemson, then I think we have a shot, but our interior defense is going to have it's hands full, and we are going to need a lot more out of Mike Tisdale. Hopefully the games before this can allow Dominique Keller to get a little more comfortable in the system. Also he should be getting better on defense which we are going to need to deal with Carrol.
Eastern Michigan at home (1-6) EMU has lost to Purdue, Georgia, and Detriot, but they only lost by one to Georgia. There other loses are to St. Johns, Cornell and Brown. Some games they have been blown out (Cornell, Purdue, and Detroit) but they have been competitive in others. Hopefully there isn't a hangover after the Mizzou game during this game because we open up Big Ten play @ Purdue two days later. I think this is going to be an ugly win for Illinois. They are led by Brandon Bowdry who is a 6-6 230 pound forward who scores and rebounds, but he looks like a turnover machine averaging 4.6 a game.
So basically I think that we finish off with maybe a lose to Mizzou in the Braggin Rights game and finish the Non-Conference schedule 11-2, which is only 5 wins away from last years total. The Big Ten season is going to be much harder to predict since the middle of the conference is much better than it has been, and the top of the conference is pretty beatable. Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Ohio State are all not very good yet. I think that Michigan State will get it figured out like they always do, they have so much talent it is amazing. Purdue doesn't look like they have gotten much better than last year, but they have looked bad against great teams. (It really makes me sick to add Duke as a great team) Wisconsin is not good talent-wise, but Bo Ryan always has a good team no matter the talent. Ohio State is relying heavily on BJ Mullins who is considered by many as the best high-schooler in the country last year, but he looks over-matched, and not really great. He will be amazing eventually, but he is not what Kosta Koufas was last year.

Illini Basketball
-Most of my friends hate Chester Frazier, well without Chester we lose by at least 10 last night. He did have 5 turnovers, but he ran the break pretty much flawlessly, and hit a big three with 7 minutes left to put us up 3 when we desperately needed a basket, then he got a put back on a Calvin miss. Chester had 12 assists and 7 of those were to Mike Davis on the press break or transition. 2 more were Trent and Demitri for lay-ins. He played pretty much as tough and hard as he could.
-Demitri McCamey fell in love with the 3. He was 2-2 and then went 2-10. In the first half he was playing great defense with a nice steal on a inbound, ran the floor well, and hit a pull up jumper. He also hit that same pull up at the end of the game, and I really wish that he would do that more. He isn't athletic enough to finish in traffic yet, so that pull up needs to be used more. A lot of people are bashing Demitri too, I think he played a good game until he got tired. He disappeared until the end of the game, and without him, we don't have a shot to win at the end of the game. He scored 7 straight at the end when we were down by 5. Contrary to popular belief (Fran Fraschella and Jay Bilas) Demitri is a penetrating point guard. He can cross anyone over that he wants, he just needs to develop the D-Will pull up 15 footer. Bruce had an absolutely disgusted look on his face when he glanced at the floor after Demitri missed Trent for the last shot of the game.
-I immediately thought that Trent Oglesby was a mini Lucas Johnson, and that was before he threw a tantrum when he stepped out of bounds and then shoved our strength coach Jimmy Price because he saved him from planting his head in the first row of stands. What a little bitch!!
-Rich Semrau might actually have been better off getting hurt for the last 2 years because he has bulked up and is the only big body we really have inside. He had 8 boards, and 4 of them were offensive. That doesn't include the 3 balls that he tapped out or kept alive that somebody else ended up getting. He hit a nice jumper, and look for him to assert himself on the offensive end a little more.
-I love Calvin Brock, and for him to be a senior and accept coming off the bench and play as hard as he does is amazing. He defended great last night and was flying to the hoop for offensive and defensive rebounds. Dominique Keller is the exact same way, except he gets lost on defense. He hit a lot of good shots, and also fought hard on the boards. Keller will be an absolute stud next year when he is comfortable on offense and defense
-Tisdale did not show up at all for this game. He has been inconsistent all year, and the most upsetting thing about him last night was the fact that he was pouting. If I see that Brian Randle bullshit on the floor from him again I am gonna totally give up on him. When Bruce pulled him after the first minute of the second half, he put his head down and started walking. Bruce screamed at him to "RUN!" and he did. Everyone says that Tisdale has problems with confidence, but this game was not a good matchup for him. He will play better in the Big Ten with less athletic post players.
-Meacham played like crap in the second half. I hate to jump on the bandwagon that he only plays well against lesser talent, but it is true for the most part. I get frustrated when he stops shooting. He did a good job of finishing in the lane, but he was short-arming 3's and then stopped looking for his shot. I like the fact that Bruce designed the last play for him, but it might have been better if he didn't get the shot, because if he missed, Illini Nation would be in an uproar. He missed 2 wide open 3's in the last 3 minutes that were designed for him off of double screens. For the record he was pretty wide open on the last play of the game.
-Mike Davis was a one man press break. 9 of his baskets came in either transition or the press break. He can also shoot free throws and actually does a decent job on the boards. On the other hand I think he might have a problem in Big Ten play having to guard bigger post players. He was made for the motion offense where he can screen and then roam the inside, or pop out for a jump shot. It is exactly like Warren Carter's senior year, except he has better hands and runs the floor better.
-Overall we got worn down in the second half. Everytime Tisdale and Jordan were in the game, our offense and press break were terrible, and neither played defense. With 15 minutes left in the second half, Illinois was up 50-44, we had a line-up of Brock, Tisdale, Jordan, Meacham, and Keller. By the 11:34 mark the score was 54-53 and Illinois had 4 turnovers, 4 fouls (two of which were on converted shots) and a missed block out on a free-throw. We subbed, but by the 10 minute mark we were down by 3. We just didn't have the depth at guard to stay with Clemson all game. Instead of being able to put the game away during that time, we played terrible and let Clemson stick around. After that they just penetrated the entire last 6 minutes because Meacham, Chester and McCamey were tired and that is all she wrote.

Also Luther Head had a breakout game a few days ago for the Rockets. He had only played 4 minutes in 2 weeks, until he played 41 minutes in a blowout win against the Spurs. He had 21 points 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Look for Luther to get traded, along with Brian Cook, who hasn't played for Orlando in a while.
New Episode of Mayne Street
Here is the link to Talk Zone's Talking Illini. I have mentioned them before, but it is a great show for Illini fans. It is basically 2 hours of sports talk for Illini sports. The best part about the show is that they get great Illini guests. They have coaches on, players like Martez Wilson and also recruits. You can e-mail or call in questions, which they always ask. Really cool, they are live every Monday from 12 to 2.
Talking Illini with Boz and Mr. G
This Sean Avery interview is freaking awesome!
So let me get this straight. In the NFL you can shoot yourself in the leg with an unregistered gun in a nightclub, and you get suspended for 4 games. You can get into a fight at a strip club after "making it rain" and then asking for the money back, then getting into a shoot out which paralyzes a bouncer, and get suspended for 1 year.
You say that other players are getting "sloppy seconds" because they are dating your ex-girlfriends and you get suspended indefinitely? This is the same sport where you pay players to start fights right? This really requires a suspension? I think a fine, and perhaps an apology would have been sufficient, but I don't know shit about hockey. All I know is that this is funny as hell, and the NHL needs all of the publicity it can get because 7 out 10 people I know had no idea that the NHL: 1) went away because of a 310 day lockout and 2) Is back after that lockout. By the way this Avery guy has dated Elisha Cuthbert and Rachel Hunter, now they both are dating other Hockey players.
This has nothing to do with sports, but it is a cross between Blow and Super Troopers, and of course it occurred in Illinois

God Bless Derrick Rose
By the way, Stacey King is by far the goofiest ex-NBA player turned commentator in professional sports. Yes a bigger dork than Bill Walton. I can't decide if Stacey and Neil Fuck sound like what Dwight and Michael from The Office would sound like if they were doing the replay, or if these two should be the stars of Christopher Guest's "Best In Show 2" It took me 3 times of watching this to actually hear how stupid they sound doing the replay, because the cross-over was that amazing. Enjoy!

So now the woman says that her life has been ruined. Obviously since people now know her name and where she lives, they have been giving her shit.
DesMoines Register
Of course she now claims that she would never knowingly do something like this, so she had to have been drugged. I'm pretty sure even the dumbest of criminals would probably think that the Men's room at a Big 10 football game is probably not the best place to carry out your master plan of drugging and then tagging a 38 year old mother of 3. She must have seemed like a much better target than all of the drunk college girls with little to no morals running around. Nice try lady, suck it up and deal with the fact that all of America now knows you are a slut, and a cheater.

I know what all of you are thinking. Is she at least hot? Well I hate to ruin it for you, but no she is not. She pretty much looks like a 38 year old mother of 3 from Iowa. Which brings me to the real question. What the shit did the 26 year old guy's girlfriend look like? Everyone is probably thinking about how bad this is going to be for the husband and the kids, I'm worried about the girlfriend. How shot is her self-esteem right now? If she hasn't already gained 15 pounds and drank a case of Effen vodka I would be shocked. The wife is using the I was too drunk and possibly drugged excuse, I wish I could hear the guys excuse, and if it worked, it should go down in history as one of the top 10 greatest excuses ever. The history books will have a picture of JFK, Bill Clinton and the Hawkeye Mother*&#^@*.

After a little research (wikipedia) it seems that Kenny actually was a back-up to Randall Cunningham at UNLV and before that was an honorable mention junior college All-American at QB. These are only a couple of the the clips. There are more if you go to espn.com, they are under videos. The cowboy camera man is my favorite.
