Bad Day for Illini Fans

Where to begin? Let's start with probably the worst news, but news that won't hurt Illinois sports this year. Looks like Frank Williams was tired of playing basketball in Europe and the NBADL, so he decided to sell weed instead.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that Frank will only suit up for the Illinois Penal League next year. Not surprised, just disappointed.

The next piece of news from the Illinois Fighting Illini Police Blotter is that Josh Brent is going to jail for his DUI, but he should be back for camp.

Finally the news that I think is probably the worst.... Mike Davis broke his ankle and is out 6-8 weeks.

Now you probably think that this isn't that big of a deal because he has plenty of time to recover before the season starts. You are correct in believing that, but most players develop and get better during the off-season, not during it. Plus playing on Team USA would have been like playing winter ball for baseball players. Instead of sitting at Ubben and destroying what is left of Rich Semrau's confidence, Mike would have been practicing against the best players his age from the US, and playing against the best at his age in the world. That experience would have helped him greatly, but now he is stuck lifting weights with Mike Tisdale and Bill Cole.
