Welcome back to Durty Butter's Weekend Picks! Lastweek I went 4-1, which means that this week I am most likely going to get my ass kicked. It doesn't really matter, I already cashed out my winnings, now I just have to wait the 40 business days that apparently is the industry standard to get my money. So before we get to this weeks picks, lets recap last week, so we can all discuss how amazing I am. Then we can get fired up about Wannie vs. Front Butt!!
First we will start with the only wrong pick I had, Illinois. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, Illinois shit the bed big time here. I already did a recap, and basically it was penalties, and turnovers inside our redzone. Hopefully they put it all together this week against Iowa.
Boise State wins easily for us last week. You know that San Jose State would not beat BSU, and the spread just wasn't big enough. Vegas figured this out, which is why they are 21 point favorites on the road. This still might not be big enough, since New Mexico State is god awful, but either way BSU is now getting Vegas respect.
Penn State's offense was not clicking like they normally do, but give credit to OSU for that. The difference in the game was one thing. PSU had no turnovers and no penalties. Pryor did look good throwing the ball, but OSU couldn't run. Durty Butter wins
Texas Tech is a sick offense. In the first quarter this game looked like it was going to be a shoot out as it was tied 14-14, then Tech scored 42 unanswered points. The defense gets a lot of help because opposing offenses have to score damn near everytime they touch the ball. We covered this spread by 42 points.
Minnesota's defense is just awesome. Not because they stop teams and have shut down players, but because they constantly create turnovers. They still have the best turnover margin in College Football, and they hold teams to field goals.
So last week we went 4-1 so for the season now we are 17-13
Illinois (-3) vs. Iowa - I hate Iowa, and I am not jumping off the Illinois bandwagon. We have only been outplayed in 2 games, that was Mizzou and Penn State. Minnesota and Wisconsin were games that we gave away with turnovers and penalties. Shonn Green does scare me, but the rest of Iowa's offense doesn't. Iowa has the number 3 defense in the Big Ten, but that is against NW, MSU, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Two of those were loses. This game pretty much determines Illinois season. If we come out and play like we can, than we can resurrect this season and play for a better bowl game. If we lose, than that Northwestern game will decide if we go to Detroit or stay home for Christmas. Plus we lost a huge game in Iowa last year, so we will be looking for payback, and if Illinois needed any more motivation, read this article. I'm sure the Illini have. Texas (-4) @ Texas Tech - Texas has played a brutal schedule, and it is almost over. They have stopped awesome offenses in Oklahoma and Mizzou, while no one has been able to stop them. Texas Tech will finally play someone who can put up points just like they can, and they are playing a defense that can stop them. Texas wins this and they are guaranteed a BCS game, and can coast until they play Mizzou for the Big 12 Title. This game being at Texas Tech might help, but there will be enough Texas fans there to make it seem like a neutral site game like Oklahoma was.
Pitt (+5) @ Notre Dame - Notre Dame has been playing better since they have gone no-huddle more, but the Fighting Wannies have been really good against the pass except for last week. Notre Dame can get as much confidence as possible playing the likes of Washington, Stanford, and San Diego State, but when push comes to shove, I still don't think they can beat teams that are the caliber of say non-bottom feeders of the FBS. I hate Front-Butt, and Clausen, and again I am gonna ride Wannie until he bucks me off.
Utah (-7.5) @ New Mexico - I'm not really sure why this spread is so close, Utah is 8-0 and ranked #10, New Mexico is 4-5 and only has one good win against Arizona. Utah is pretty legit as far as a non major conference team goes, and New Mexico is pretty average as far a non major conference team goes. Plus to actually get into a BCS game, or a National Championship game, Utah needs to impress voters, winning by only a touchdown at New Mexico will not accomplish this. The win at Michigan for Utah doesn't mean nearly as much as did week one, so look for Utah to crush people.
Florida (-6) vs Georgia - I can't wait for this game. I'm sure that all of you remember what happened last year after Georgia scored its first touchdown. It has been all over sportscenter, but if you haven't seen it here it is.

That was probably the most appalling thing that I have seen that a coach not only condoned, but planned himself. It worked for Mark Richt last year, but it is gonna have repercussions for years. Urban Meyer is gonna run up the score on Georgia every year he plays them until Richt is gone. Look for every starter on Florida to be on the field until the final whistle blows, Meyer is still probably gonna have his team lined up during the post game press conference. Florida is playing great coming in to this game, Georgia is scoring points, but also giving up points. They are going to get punched in the mouth early, and then when they are on the ground Florida is gonna keep punching them until Georgia is buried in the ground.
Great football games this weekend, I am just hoping that Illinois shows up, and that I don't have another debacle the week after I went 4-1. Everybody cheer for Wannie, and for delusional Iowa fans to remember their place, as a fall back school for people that don't get into Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, or Michigan
