Reports are the Mike Locksley is leaving the University of Illinois to go to New Mexico and become their head coach. Locks was at University of Illinois for 4 years and was their Offensive Coordinator. The biggest loss will most likely be in recruiting, as Locksley was considered Illinois' best recruiter and was the Illini's connection to the Maryland/DC area where we got recruits such as Rejus Benn, Vontae Davis and Eddie McGee. My guess is that Illinois will promote Eric Wolford or Kurt Beathard to become our new OC. I'm not devastated by this, having Locksley go so far west shouldn't allow him to take a lot of DC recruits, and hopefully Illinois has made some other connections there. Also it was a down year for recruiting in that area, so we only have 2 commits for DC. Had this been 2 years ago I would have panicked, plus I think his play calling in the last 5 games was atrocious. Hopefully now we actually run the ball more than 12 times a game, and teach our linemen and running backs how to pick-up blitzes, also maybe throw in a hot route or 2 for our receivers.
This hasn't been confirmed by UNM or Illinois
