Vontae Going Pro

For the second straight year Illinois will have a player skip their senior season and go to the NFL Draft. This year it is Cornerback Vontae Davis. My guess (and pretty much everyone else's) is that Vontae is going to kill at the combine and probably be a top 15 pick and be at least the second corner taken.

Here are his stats and the press release from fightingillini.com

For some reason I thought that Vontae had more than 7 interceptions. My favorite memories of Vontae will be his blocked punt against Mizzou 2 years ago, and then in the upset of Ohio State, Vontae came up and leveled Beanie Wells in the flat, gave himself a concussion, yet still got up and head-butted J Leman before he went to the sidelines for the rest of the game. I couldn't find either of these plays, so here is Vontae killing a receiver from Northwestern.

Also now Illinois might have to look for another assistant coach as Curt Mallory who is the Co-defensive coordinator is a top candidate for the Miami (OH) job. So now all we need is a Offensive Coordinator who can teach his offense how to pick up blitzes and run hot routes, and a Defensive Coordinator who might play his corners within 7 yards of receivers and perhaps blitz someone other than Martez Wilson off the edge. I know this sounds like a daunting task, but I have some faith in Zook.
